This 16-Year-Old Fighting Leukemia Had a Moment With LeBron James
The season doesn't tip off for another few weeks, but the Cavaliers have been the toast of the NBA since LeBron James' return made Cleveland title favorites. And to exactly no one's surprise, the team's annual "Wine and Gold" intrasquad scrimmage was the occasion for some incredible highlights and glimpses of the fireworks ahead.
But even with the best player in the world in the building, the star of the night was Jackie Custer. Custer, a 16-year-old from nearby Massillon, Ohio, has dominated social media since the story of her battle with leukemia — and experience with the Cavaliers — has gone viral.
Custer, herself a basketball player, was treated to a special meet-and-greet at the scrimmage with Cavaliers players, receiving a jersey and hug from LeBron himself.
Despite her illness, Custer has been staying positive and even preempted her hair loss by donating all 10 inches of it to Locks of Love at the Akron Children's Hospital. On a night meant to showcase the theoretical best the NBA has to offer, Custer managed to steal the spotlight, and deservedly so.
