Spice Girls the Musical: Viva Forever! Will Bring Back the Girl Power

Culture

In 1996, the Spice Girls’ first debut single “Wannabe” hit number-one in more than 30 countries. Their debut album “Spice” sold more than 28 million copies all over the world becoming the best-selling album by a female group. Nelson Mandela even defined them as his “heroes”. Spice Girls built up a reputation as a global phenomenon. These five girls were a constant part of our childhoods; they were idols for thousands of girl all over the world. Now, their 1990's legacy will be hitting the stage. The girls glory is back!

The Spice Girls will be reuniting onstage for a musical based on their songs. Victoria, Melanie, Emma, Melanie, and Geri are going to give their fans what they “really, really want” – a trip back to their golden childhood. The world premiere of Viva Forever! will be at London’s Piccadilly Theatre in December, right before Christmas. The musical is written by British comedian Jennifer Saunders and will be produced by Judy Craymer, the mastermind behind the successful ABBA musical Mamma Mia! The show will include the songs “Wannabe”, “The Lady Is A Vamp”, “Who Do You Think You Are”, and “Mamma”. Unfortunately, the five original Spice Girls won’t be in the show, but they will influence the show’s cast.

Spice Girls catchy dance-pop style caught the attention not only of younger girls and boys but of adults too. Spice Girls conquered the world’s music stage and became a cross-generational success. The five girls were not just an ordinary girl band with mawkish songs. They made a revolution of the music industry and left a lasting footprint on the pop landscape. Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and One Direction they may all have thousands, even millions, of fans all over the world, but there is a difference between them and Spice Girls. They will never be honored like them. These five girls who began as just everyday young Brits became a symbol for the whole decade. Because of them the late 90's will always be known as the Girl Power era. And this era is back!

What should we expect? Colors and great spirit admittedly. Viva Forever! will draw us into the jungle of our past lives, conjuring up our memories of cassette players, platform shoes, irreplaceable friendships and most of all ... the unique sound of the one and only Spice Girls.
