Comic Con 2012: Gears of War, Spartacus, Hobbit, Iron Man, and Other Comic Con Updates
Games:
• Nintendo offered a walkthrough Battle Quest, a game in the long-running Legend of Zelda series, expecting release on the Wii U. Also on display was another famous franchise, Donkey Kong, with its game Crash Course
• Gears of War: Judgment, the latest in the line of extremely successful action games by Epic Games, was on display with a focus on the new multi player mode, titled “Overrun.” The game will be released on March 19, 2013
• Assassin’s Creed III’s new multi player mode, Wolf Pack, was placed on display by Ubisoft
• Footage from a boss fight within the anime fighter, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3, was revealed
• The video game Hawken will be adapted into both a feature film and a web-series
• W. Earl Brown (There’s Something About Mary) has joined the cast of The Last of Us by Naughty Dog (Uncharted)
Movies:
• It has been confirmed that Peter Jackson will not be a part of any third Hobbit movie
• It is revealed that the trailer to the new James Bond movie, Skyfall, will only be displayed in IMAX theaters
• Marvel displayed all the suits of armor being used in Iron Man 3
• Fans were introduced to ParaNorman, a stop-motion picture about a zombie growing up
• Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and director Neill Blomkamp (District 9) were all present at the panel of the new science fiction film, Elysium
• Jessica Biel joined the cast of the upcoming Wolverine, playing the role of Viper
Television:
• FX screened an unaired episode of their comedy series, Wilfred, after which Elijah Wood, David Zuckerman and Jason Gann discussed the previous season
• Creators of the new Sherlock Holmes series revealed that, despite a gender change of the titular hero’s sidekick, there would be no romance between the sleuth and Dr. Watson
• Comic-Con screened The Arrow, the DC Comics property that is set to become the new superhero series on the CW.
• It is revealed that Showtime’s Homeland will now feature overseas locations rather than the domestic action drama it is known as
• The cast of Dexter discussed the upcoming season. Joining the show, and also available at the panel, was Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck)
• After Dan Harmon left as the show runner for Community, the new heads promise that they will still provide the quality entertainment the show is known for
• It was revealed that The Legend of Korra, the sequel to the critically acclaimed Avatar: The Last Airbender, has been renewed for two more seasons
• A panel was conducted, discussing Warner Bros.’ admittedly and intentionally confusing show Cult
• A trailer for the final season of Starz’ Spartacaus was unveiled
• Game of Thrones will air March 31, 2013
Comics:
• Legendary Comics unveiled Shadow Walk, a new series resulting from the collaborative efforts of Mark Waid, Max Brooks and Shane Davis
• DC Comics conducted a panel specifically targeted for fans of Superman, letting readers know what is the future of the character
• Ultimate Iron Man, a mini-series, will be launching this October
• Marvel announced more of the Avengers vs. X-Men storyline in the future
• The DC Comics panel discussed numerous projects, including Martian Manhunter joining the Justice League, Swamp Thing and Savage Hawkman
• E. L. James, author of Fifty Shades of Grey, signed autographs for the fans
