A New Fan Theory About 'Game of Thrones' and Jon Snow Is the Wildest Yet

If there's anything this summer has proved, it's that we know nothing about Game of Thrones' Jon Snow. Actor Kit Harington hasn't gotten a haircut. Does that mean Snow is alive? HBO executives say he's dead. Does that mean he's coming back? Emilia Clarke thinks he's coming back! Seemingly everyone knows what's going to happen — of course Jon Snow is coming back — but that hasn't stopped the theories from running wild.

None of those compare, however, to a newly popular fan theory that Jon Snow has a twin. It recently started to spread on Reddit, because obviously it started on Reddit, thanks to a prediction from redditor ghostchief. The theory supposes that recurring character Meera Reed (Ellie Kendrick) is Snow's sister.

The evidence is kind of thin: The two look similar and in canon were born in the same year. However, the show has fouled that up a bit by casting Kendrick, a much younger actor than Harington. So even if it's true in the books, translating that to the screen will be a difficult task.

Notably, however, this isn't the first time the theory has made the rounds. Fans of the books discussed the possibility on forums as early as 2006. So why are the rumor mills churning again?

Unlike the gap between any previous and new season of Game of Thrones, fans are flying blind as they await new episodes of the HBO show. All the existing books have been adapted, and the plots in the show's sixth season will come entirely from George R.R. Martin's unreleased sixth book, The Winds of Winter.

Thanks to that lack of information, the conspiracy wheels are turning at double their usual speed. This is a fanbase that pores over every detail multiple times trying to find hidden meanings or hints at the future. They're starved for anything; this theory is feeding them.

However, HBO is once again insisting Jon Snow is dead. So soon enough, fans will be back to wondering if Jon Snow is coming back. (SPOILER ALERT: He totally is.)
