Hayden Panettiere Is Entering Treatment for Postpartum Depression
Hayden Panettiere, the 26-year-old American actress who plays Juliette Barnes on ABC's musical drama Nashville, is seeking treatment for postpartum depression, according to People magazine.
Panettiere is "voluntarily seeking professional help at a treatment center as she is currently battling postpartum depression," the star's rep told People. In December, Panettiere gave birth to her now 10-month-old daughter Kaya Evdokia. Her fiancé, Wladimir Klitschko, is best known for his professional boxing career.
This is not the first trace of Panettiere's postpartum depression. In September, the actress appeared on an episode of Live! with Kelly and Michael, where she discussed her Nashville character's postpartum depression and confessed to grappling with similar challenges.
"I can very much relate," Panettiere said at the time. "It's something a lot of women experience. When [you're told] about postpartum depression you think it's 'I feel negative feelings towards my child, I want to injure or hurt my child' — I've never, ever had those feelings."
"Some women do," she added. "But you don't realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It's something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they're not alone, and that it does heal."
