Ron Paul is Retiring on the Highest Note Possible, As the Ultimate Champion of Liberty

For decades, Ron Paul was cast into the shadow of mainstream American politics, criticized and outcasted for his libertarian message. But, thanks to the internet, Ron Paul has become a social media and YouTube sensation, which has allowed him to break out into the mainstream. Throughout the 2008 and 2012 election, the Texas congressman has become so popular that he came reasonably close to winning the Republican nomination. So, the question remains: Why is Ron Paul retiring?

When Ron Paul ran for the Republican nomination in 2008, he was first able to take his message to a wider Republican audeince. The media still continued to black him out, but his libertarian  message trickled out to the world through videos and websites. Ron Paul became an online preacher , giving young people the hope that change is still possible in the country. In 2012, Ron Paul's supporters exploded into a grassroots movement, with massive crowds and the logo, “rEVOLution.”

Although Paul was not invited to speak at the Republican National Convention in 2008, much has changed in the past four years. Occupy Wall Street brought ideas like the political-corporate alliance and problems with the Federal Reserve into the mainstream. People were upset, especially after the 2008 financial crises, and began to realize that their politicians were not helping them. Ron Paul appealed to young people as an alternative (ironic considering the age difference), and blew up the libertarian movement in this election cycle. The results have showed: Paul's is Audit the Fed bill has gained mainstream recognition and approval; financial elites are watching their power diminsh before their eyes; slowly but surely, Paul's revolution has begun.

So why is Ron Paul retiring? He has already brought his movement to the forefront. To his supporters, he is the champion of liberty, so retiring now allows Ron Paul to end his career on a high note.

Just like any company/organization, Ron Paul is treated with respect and dignity on his way out. It just so happens that Ron Paul’s retirement comes near the time of the RNC Convention. By retiring this year, Ron Paul may be forcing the RNC to give him a 15-minute speaking slot at this year's convention, 15 minutes of glory that will allow him to speak to the largest political audience in the Republican Party.
