Move over, Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bye bye, bat signal. The greatest superhero to answer the call of duty of our modern era just came to us in the form of Serena Williams, the top-ranked female tennis player in the world. And she told her own story.
Williams posted to her Facebook page on Wednesday the tale of what happened when her "superhero sense" kicked in, and she foiled the plans of a petty cellphone-swiper.
Williams was seated at a table in a Chinese restaurant when she said her "super hero sense" began to tingle in reaction to a man loitering near her and the cellphone placed on the chair beside her. She quickly realized the man had left the restaurant with her phone. Without thinking, Williams writes, she leaped up and over multiple chairs to chase him down (and that's why you don't skip leg day).
Williams, of course, caught up to the mere mortal who tried to outrun her and asked him "in the most menacing, yet calm, no-nonsense voice I could muster" if he took her phone by accident. The man, who she said was startled and confused, said he took the phone by accident.
Upon her return, the restaurant broke into applause. Williams said she stood up to the bully not only for herself but for all women. "It was a win for the ladies!" she wrote on Facebook. "Always listen to your superhero inner voice. Always keep your things close! Fight for what's right. Stand for what you believe in! Be a superhero!"

So remember, Wonder Woman, next time you need to invoke a goddess to win the day, try calling out this name: Serena.
