'American Idol' Season 15 Finale: Performers, Date and More for the Farewell Episode

The final episode of the final season of American Idol will air Thursday, April 7 — a new winner will be crowned, and a fascinating chapter of American television history will come to a close. Fox announced Thursday that the finale will include performances from Idol alums Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen and a whole host of others, reports Billboard.

The finale will mark the second time that past winner Clarkson has returned to the Idol stage for the farewell season. Back in February she brought the judges to tears with an emotional performance of  her song "Piece by Piece."

Two weeks out from the finale, the crop of American Idol finalists is down to four contestants: La'Porsha Renae, MacKenzie Bourg, Trent Harmon and Dalton Rapattoni. The finale of American Idol will air live on FOX Thursday, April 7, from 8 to 10 p.m. Eastern.
