These 'Harry Potter'-Inspired Pumpkin Pasties Recipes Make Savory, Sweet Treats

Impact

Sold on the Hogwarts Express trolley, pumpkin pasties are the Harry Potter version of a classic savory English snack. Ron and Harry ate these little guys while on their very first trip to the legendary wizard school.

Like the popular Cornish pasties (which consists of beef and potatoes), pumpkin pasties are what they sound like: a folded pastry case filled with pumpkin filling.

Thankfully, Bijoux and Bits created both sweet and savory versions of pumpkin pasties, so that every Potterhead's palette can be pleased. They are below.

Sweet: Cinnamon, allspice and sugar give this batch of pumpkin pasties a sweet, pumpkin pie-like quality.

The ingredients are as follows:

- 7.5 ounces (1/2 can) of pumpkin puree (not pie filling)

- 1 tablespoon butter

- 1 teaspoon cinnamon

- 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie seasoning

- 1/4 teaspoon allspice

- 2 tablespoons sugar or granulated sugar substitute

- 1 package refrigerated pie dough

- Flour for dusting

- 1 egg, slightly beaten for egg wash

Savory: The savory pumpkin pasty is cheesy and garlicky, enhanced with onion powder and sage.

- 7.5 ounces (1/2 can) of pumpkin puree (not pie filling)

- 1 tablespoon butter

- 1/2 clove garlic, minced

- 1/4 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

- 1/8 teaspoon sage

- 1/4 teaspoon salt

- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

- 1 package refrigerated pie dough

- Flour for dusting

- 1 egg, slightly beaten for egg wash

For both savory or sweet, first preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a cookie sheet.

Then mix the pumpkin puree with butter that has been warmed to room temperature. For the savory version, mix in the garlic, cheese and seasonings. For the sweet version, just combine the sugar and seasonings.

Roll out the pie crust to 1/8-inch thickness on a flat surface dusted with flour. Cut into circles that are about four inches in diameter.

Spoon the pumpkin mixture onto one side of the circles and fold over and crimp with a fork. Cut three small slits for ventilation.

Brush each pasty with the egg wash and bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
