DNC 2012: Democratic Email Fundraising Leaves a Few Fundraising Principles In the Dust

I signed up for the "remove Todd Akin from the House Committee on Science and Technology" petition. This got me on Democrat campaign fundraising email lists. Before I evaluate today's fundraising emails from the DCCC, I should disclose: I have been involved in high-level charitable fundraising for a long time and am a former nonprofit executive.

The last 24 hours worth of emails from the DCCC need to be reviewed by a fundraising expert. Or -- put another way -- WTF?

In order, this is the incoming in my mailbox, excluding what went into the spam filter. Some did -- I gave them the benefit of the Spam Doubt.

Thursday, August 30, 11:38 pm:

"BREAKING: New poll:"

WASHINGTON POST:

At the beginning of the week, Mitt Romney was four points behind President Obama in the first installment of the Reuters/Ipsos rolling poll. Now he’s two points ahead.

Friend --

Tonight, Mitt Romney gets his uninterrupted nationally televised speech to tear down President Obama with more lies and dishonest attacks.

What happens next is up to you.

There's only 24 hours left before the biggest fundraising deadline we’ve faced.

Donate $3 or whatever you can to back up President Obama with a Democratic majority right now

Thanks for standing with us,

Why?

Friend --

I want you to remember one thing about that Republican Convention:

All those radical ideas you heard on TV would become a reality if Romney were elected with a Republican Congress to back him up.

My friends at the DCCC are working overtime to expose the Republicans' plans to sell out the middle class for multi-millionaire tax breaks, but they need your help right now. Midnight tonight is the most important fundraising deadline of this election.

Donate $3 or more before midnight to help the DCCC elect a Democratic House for President Obama -- your donation will be triple-matched >>

The Romney-Ryan-Republican plan would essentially end Medicare, defund Planned Parenthood and repeal Obamacare. It would slash student aid and gut Social Security.

Why?

Just so they could pay for more tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires.

If we wake up the day after the election and Romney and the Republicans have won, it will be too late. Your moment to make a difference is now. Please donate before tonight's midnight fundraising deadline:

No regrets,

Paul

Friend --

Think whatever you want about Mitt Romney.

But right now he’s leading President Obama in two major polls (Reuters/Ipsos and ABC News/Washington Post).

We’re 67 days away from a President Romney backed by an extreme Republican Majority in Congress if we don’t do something about it. Take a moment, think about what that would mean for our country. Then help us stop it from happening.

The biggest fundraising deadline we’ve faced hits at midnight.

Chip in $3 or more to win a Democratic majority for President Obama and we'll triple-match your gift >>

Amazing

From Nancy Pelosi

Friend --

This would be amazing:

As of this moment, we are just $18,700 away from the biggest grassroots fundraising month we’ve ever had!

That’s definitely not what Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan bargained for after their big convention.

Only a few hours remain before the most important fundraising deadline of the election. Will you put us over the top?

Contribute $3 before midnight and we'll triple-match your gift >>

Thank you,

Nancy

From Nancy Pelosi

Friend --

Yesterday, Mitt Romney had his big speech.

Today, we could break the record for our biggest grassroots day ever! We're just 212 donations short of the most contributions we've ever had on a single day.

Help break our one-day record: Contribute $3 before midnight and we'll triple-match your gift >>

I don't think this series of emails needs a lot of editorializing.

I've gotten one email fundraising request from Mitt Romney in the past 24 hours, for $15. And he doesn't refer to me as "Friend."

How likely are you to make Mic your go-to news source?
