Watch the Evolution of Man's Face in Under 2 Minutes With This Video

Like an anthropology class on steroids, 6 million years of evolution of the human face has been condensed down to about a minute and a half in a YouTube video from Yale University. The 2013 video is a teaser for paleo-artist John Gurche's book How Science, Art, and Imagination Help Us Understand Our Origins, in which he renders our ancestors. 

The time-lapse begins with a primate's face and then slowly works through our human ancestors until it reaches the face of today's human. To create the representation, Gurche drew from "fossil discoveries and forensic techniques," according to the video description.

"To support the reconstruction work, I've done many dissections over the years, and this includes males and females of all living species of great ape, including humans," Gurche told the Boston Globe.

The video draws on the 15 sculptures that Gurche made for the Hall of Human Origins at the Smithsonian Institution back in 2010, according to the Boston Globe.
