Jessica Sanchez DNC Performance Video: American Idol Sings Obama to Reelection

Jessica Sanchez, the 17-year-old American Idol runner up who controversially lost to Phillip Phillips in the latest edition of the Fox's famous signing contest, had a new opportunity to perform at another kind of American Idol-type competition: the 2012 Democratic National Convention which will nominate President Barack Obama for reelection.

Sanchez, a native from California who is of Mexican American and Filipino descent, said that even though she was still too young to cast a vote in this election she was happy to offer her support for the reelection of President Obama by performing at the DNC in Charlotte, North Carolina, along God's Appointed People Choir. Sanchez moved the audience to tears by performing Marvin Gaye's "You're All I Need to Get By."

The Chula Vista native, who also appeared on Showtime at the Apollo and America's Got Talent, remained locked in a fierce and close competition with current American Idol Phillip Phillips, amid online rumors about the Fox's show "diversity problem," as Sanchez -- who according to fans online had better vocal skills than Phillips -- lost to the latest representative of the "White Guy With Guitar (WGWG)" dynasty that has reigned supreme on the show for four years on a row; propelled to victory by the legions of teenage girls (and their moms) who year after year vote the good-looking white guy over more talented but less appealing candidates.
