The First Photos from Upcoming 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' Play Have Been Released

Culture

We already know it's going to make us cry thanks to J.K. Rowling, but now, fans have been given a first glimpse of the characters in costume for the upcoming play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The West End play's official Twitter account shared photos of the series' main family, featuring the titular Harry Potter (played by Jamie Parker), Ginny Potter (played by Poppy Miller) and their son, Albus Severus Potter (played by Sam Clemmett).

The Cursed Child takes place 19 years after the events of the last Harry Potter novel, with Albus beginning his first year at Hogwarts. Other characters from the original series will return, including Ron and Hermione, and Pottermore will be releasing additional cast photos for the play throughout the week (perhaps the aforementioned Ron and Hermione) ahead of its first, public preview.

While Rowling has stayed mum, she says she's pleased with the castings — including Parker's portrayal of Harry.

"He simply is Harry now," Rowling told Pottermore. "There's a kind of relief in watching him, he gets it so right."
