There's One Revealing Difference in How Democrats and Republicans Are Reacting to Orlando

Impact

Most Americans have expressed outrage over the shooting massacre in Orlando that killed 50 and injured more than 50 others.

But according to a new poll, they are divided on the root cause of the attack, which was carried out by a man who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State terror group, also known as ISIS.

According to the Gallup tracking poll, 60% of Democrats blame the attack on gun violence, while 79% of Republicans blame Islamic terrorism.

Independents are largely split over the cause, with 44% blaming Islamic terrorism, and 42% blaming gun violence, the survey found.

While Democrats and Republicans are split over the cause of the attack, they are united in a response. The survey found 80% believed banning the sale of guns to people on the FBI's "no-fly" list would prove effective in preventing incidents like the Orlando attack.

Democratic senators launched a filibuster on the Senate floor to push for a vote on that very issue this week.

And even presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump signaled support for the cause, saying Wednesday that he would meet with the National Rifle Association to discuss the issue.

A bill seeking to ban "no-fly" list members from buying guns failed in Congress in late 2015.

And the NRA signaled Thursday night that they are not on board with the legislation.
