8 images capture America's dying soul as Venus and Serena Williams lose Olympic doubles
Venus and Serena Williams lost in the first round of tennis doubles at the XXXI Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro Sunday.
And with that, the United States is officially over.
Nothing is good in the world.
Before their defeat at the hands of Czech Republic's Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova, the Williams sisters were undefeated in doubles across three separate Olympics.
Their record as a team was a dominant 15-0, with gold medals at the 2000 Sydney Games, the 2008 Beijing Games and the 2012 London Games.
Sunday's loss eliminated them from competition in Rio and brought their record to 15-1.
Now, we must wake up every day in a world where the Williams sisters are no longer the unstoppable Olympic juggernaut we once knew them to be.
These GIFs illustrate how we feel about this — you, me, all of us.
Serena is now our main hope for redemption as she continues her own fight for singles gold this week.
No matter how that turns out, America still loves you both.
