Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky Recreated Their Photo From 10 Years Ago — But Flipped It

Impact

Ten years ago, a 9-year-old Katie Ledecky — then an aspiring swimmer — posed for a photo with superstar athlete Michael Phelps as he signed an autograph for her. The picture has made the rounds this Olympics, as Ledecky, now a full-fledged superstar herself, smashed the competition and earned a total of four gold medals and one silver in Rio.

On Monday, the two legendary swimmers and Olympic teammates recreated their famous photo for NBC's Today only this time, the roles were switched. Michael Phelps was getting his very own Katie Ledecky autograph.

"A lot of the young swimmers on the team, we all looked up to him when we were 6 years old,'' Ledecky told Today (accidentally pointing out how old Phelps is).

"I didn't mean it like that ... I started watching him when I was 6 years old when I was first starting to get in the sport and to be on the team with him has been such an honor," she said.
