Endeavor Flyover Pictures: Amazing Photos of Space Shuttle Flight in Los Angeles

Impact

Space Shuttle Endeavour officially landed safely at the Los Angeles airport on Friday, after conducting nearly a five-hour flyover above the city of LA.

After heading over the state Capitol, Golden Gate Bridge, Hollywood Sign, and other California landmarks, the shuttle touched down at LAX, before it travels to a Los Angeles museum next month.

Attached to the back of a 747 jumbo jet, the shuttle touched down at approximately 1 p.m. Thousands of people looked on from afar, chanting "USA, USA!" and taking photos of the shuttle as it made its way to LAX.

Endeavor is the youngest shuttle in the NASA fleet, replacing the Challenger in 1986 after it blew up. The shuttle retired last year after three decades. It was originally assembled at a military outpost near Edwards Air Force Base 100 miles north of Los Angeles. It returned home to its original birthplace on Friday after flying across the country. The shuttle made a special flyover in Tucson, Arizona to honor Mark Kelly, wife of Gabby Giffords and the last commander of the Endeavor.
