'Runaways' to Hulu: Marvel is bringing its teen-centric series to streaming

Hulu is getting in on the Marvel TV business by bringing a popular series to the streaming service. According to a Deadline report, Hulu will produce a live-action adaptation of Marvel's Runaways series, which has a distinctly different vibe from Marvel's Netflix-produced shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones

Runaways, for one, will focus on a group of six teenagers — and eventually, if they stay true to the source material, a genetically engineered dinosaur — who discover their parents aren't exactly what they seem: They're a group of supervillains (basically, the anti-Incredibles). From there, the kids will rebel against the parents and discover superpowers of their own.

Most importantly, Runaways is a key platform for Marvel on a representation front, with several characters of color and LGBTQ representation that isn't as heavily depicted in its other on-screen series and films.

"I'm a longtime fan of Runaways and couldn't be more excited to bring [comic book creator Brian K. Vaughan and artist Adrian Alphona]'s characters to life," series co-creator Josh Schwartz told Deadline.

With the news of a show on the way (though the release date is still to be announced), Runaways comic book fans were understandably excited on the Twitterverse.
