Watch Millie Bobby Brown from 'Stranger Things' get her iconic buzzcut to play Eleven

The Netflix retro-sci-fi show Stranger Things was an overnight sensation when it debuted in July. Critics almost universally lauded the children in the cast — especially the mysterious Eleven, a girl with supernatural abilities, not many social skills (she's been raised in a lab) and a killer buzzcut.

When viewers first meet Eleven, her look is, well, a little unnerving: She's clad in a ragged hospital gown, her head is shaved and she's got the darty eyes of a cornered field mouse.

But the actress who plays Eleven, 12-year-old Millie Bobby Brown, didn't start off looking much like her character at all. In order to transform into Eleven, Brown had to take on the persona of a frightened and frightening telekinetic kid — and she had to shave all her hair off.

On Sunday, Brown tweeted out the video of the moment she shaved her head to play Eleven — and it's pretty dramatic.

Back in July, Brown told Vulture that shaving her head was actually a bigger deal for her mom than it was for her.

"I had very long hair and I cut it all off for the part," she said. "I read the script and I was so happy with my character and I thought, 'This is how it's gotta be.'"

"My mom and my grandpa were like, 'No, you can't do that,'" she continued. "It took me 12 years — well, 11 years — to grow something. [My hair] wasn't thick, but it was long. And then they shaved it all off and it was very hard for my parents. But I convinced them. I was like, 'Dude, it grows back. It's fine.'"

It does grow back, but, assuming there's going to be a season two of Stranger Things, Brown may have to get those clippers out again.
