In Donald Trump's America, the Second Amendment is for whites only
Donald Trump is fond of saying Hillary Clinton wants to take away your guns.
But in discussing his plan for a nationwide stop-and-frisk policy to reduce crime in inner cities, Trump confirmed he's actually the one who wants to take away Americans' guns.
More specifically, he wants to take away guns from those stopped and frisked by the police — whom studies show are overwhelmingly people of color.
"Stop and frisk worked," Trump said Thursday morning during an appearance on Fox & Friends, referring to the policy in New York that was scrapped as well as ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge. Police are "proactive, and if they see a person possibly with a gun or they think they have a gun, they will see the person and they'll look and they'll take the gun away. They'll stop, they'll frisk and they'll take the gun away, and they won't have anything to shoot with."
Trump's suggestion that he would "take the gun away" from those who are stopped and frisked runs afoul of his tough talk on gun rights.
If Clinton had uttered those words, they would provide no shortage of fodder for groups like the National Rifle Association, which is currently running ads saying Clinton will "leave you defenseless" by taking away Americans' Second Amendment rights.
Twitter was relentless in saying Trump is only for the Second Amendment when it applies to white people.
After Philando Castile, a black man in Minnesota who was in legal possession of a gun when he was shot and killed by police in July, the NRA said gun rights should apply to all Americans.
"As the nation's largest and oldest civil rights organization, the NRA proudly supports the right of law-abiding Americans to carry firearms for defense of themselves and others regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation," the NRA said in a statement after Castile's death.
The NRA has yet to issue a public statement after Trump's comments Thursday morning.
