Republican presidential candidates have won North Dakota each year since 1968, and 2016 is no different. Donald Trump romped to victory in the home of the oil and natural gas empire, defeating his opponent Hillary Clinton.

The state has three electoral votes and fewer than 800,000 residents. Its conservative politics made it a likely win for Trump from the outset and per usual, the state did not see substantial general election campaigning.

 In 2012, Mitt Romney won the state by 20 points
