Who won Kansas? Here's which candidate took the state Tuesday.

Impact

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has won the state of Kansas, according to early election results reported by the Associated Press.

Trump has regularly led Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton the polls in the Sunflower State, often by double digits. But a Google Consumers Survey conducted from Oct. 25 to Oct. 31 put Clinton ahead of Trump by 8 percentage points.

In the days leading up to the election, FiveThirtyEight projected Trump with a 94% or greater chance of winning the state. Voters in Kansas have chosen the GOP nominee in the past four elections, according to Ballotpedia.

Still, Trump's lead in Kansas, which has six electoral votes, has not been as high as it has been for previous Republican candidates. In the 2012 election, GOP nominee Mitt Romney won Kansas with nearly 60% of the vote, according to Ballotpedia.

"Even among folks in the GOP, they haven't rallied around their candidate because Trump is a different kind of candidate from what we've seen before," Chapman Rackaway, a political scientist at Fort Hays State University, told the Wichita Eagle. "Look at your Twitter feed. How many of the Republicans and conservatives that you follow are pining wistfully for Mitt Romney right now, the same guy who they were claiming wasn't conservative enough for them in 2012?"
