Scott Michael Greene, suspect in Des Moines killing of 2 officers, taken into custody

Scott Michael Greene, 46, of Urbandale, Iowa, who has been identified as a suspect in the shooting deaths of two police officers early Wednesday in Des Moines, was reportedly taken into custody around 9 a.m. local time, after a police manhunt, according to local outlet KCCI. On Thursday, the Associated Press reported that Greene had been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killings of Sgt. Tony Beminio and Officer Justin Martin. 

The two police officers who were killed were attacked in their patrol cars a couple miles apart and killed in "ambush-style attacks," local officials told the Associated Press.

Around 5:30 a.m. local time Wednesday, police released an advisory over scanners indicating that officials were looking for Greene in connection with the killings. The advisory reportedly indicated Greene could be in the Omaha, Nebraska, area and was possibly armed with "a high-powered or AR-15 rifle," according to the AP.

Police said in a press release that "Greene is believed to be armed and should be considered dangerous. If seen, please do not approach Greene, but call 911 and report his location," according to CNN.

A Nexis search of public records indicated that Greene has a criminal history that includes charges for domestic assault and a 2014 charge of harassment in the first degree.

A YouTube video that appears to have been uploaded by Greene in October, titled "Police Abuse, Civil Rights Violation at Urbandale High School 10/14/16," seems to show Greene clashing with police officers. It appears to show Greene asking repeatedly if he is being charged with a crime, while officers respond that they are asking him to leave. 

It may be connected to another video from the same account, the title indicating the same date, that shows a still shot of someone who may be Greene holding a what appears to be a Confederate battle flag.  

"There's somebody out there shooting police officers," Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek said at a press conference Wednesday morning. "We hope to find him before somebody else gets hurt."
