'Pokémon Go' nest location changes and updates: The sixth nest migration has arrived

Impact

Having trouble catching the Pokémon you're looking for in Pokémon Go? Good news: The newest nest location update to the game might give you a hand up. Here's what you'll find in the sixth nest migration, or where the nests relocate in Pokémon Go.

On Wednesday night, Pokémon Go fan community the Silph Road posted the arrival of the sixth nest migration, and immediately asked its members to begin updating the Global Nest Atlas that uses crowdsourced data to report on the latest locations of Pokémon nests in Pokémon Go.

How to track nest location changes in Pokémon Go

A "nest" in Pokémon Go is a location where players have noticed a reliable concentration on Pokémon spawns of a certain species. Tracking its changing locations can be tricky. Just as there are no official first-party tools provided by developer Niantic to track the locations of individual Pokémon in Pokémon Go, there are no first-party tools to track nest locations. Therefore, every time the nests migrate, Pokémon Go community tools like the Global Nest Atlas need to rebuild their database of nest locations from the ground up.

Not all Pokémon species change spawn locations after a nest migration

Nest migrations aren't wholesale reshuffling of all the spawn points for all species of Pokémon in Pokémon Go. Only certain species of Pokémon will begin appearing in new areas following a nest migration, which is why we need tools like the Global Nest Atlas.

Silph Road moderator dronpes also said that there seems to be increased biodiversity following this nest migration, which means you may begin seeing Pokémon in your area that you've rarely or never seen in that location, if you're lucky.

If you're interested in helping the Pokémon Go community discover all the new nest locations following the sixth migration, you can join the Silph Road and begin contributing data to the Global Nest Atlas. Your fellow Pokémon Go players will thank you. The more you know about where Pokémon spawn, the easier it is to catch the exact Pokémon you want for your attacker and defender squads.
