Democrat Jay Inslee cruised to victory in his bid for re-election as governor of Washington on Tuesday, defeating Republican challenger Bill Bryant. 

Though Washington has voted Democratic in presidential elections since the 1980s, its politics are more split on the state level.

Still, Inslee was long seen as the favorite in this year's gubernatorial contest. Polls gave Inslee nearly a double-digit lead in the run-up to Tuesday's vote.
