Did Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump win the popular vote?

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump flipped widespread expectations of a loss in the Nov. 8 presidential elections into what looks like an imminent victory, with the New York Times now projecting Trump has a greater than 95% chance of besting Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the Electoral College.

According to the Times, Trump stands at 265 electoral votes — just shy of the 270 required to win — with Clinton lagging far behind at 218. The real estate mogul and former reality TV star had a strong showing in swing states; he locked up Florida hours ago, won Pennsylvania and by the Times' estimate is projected to win Wisconsin and Michigan.

Currently, the status of the popular vote total is unclear. The Times projects Clinton is likely to win by somewhere between 1 to 1.5 percentage points. But with 83% of districts reporting as of around 2:20 a.m. Eastern, Google's live service using AP data reports Trump is leading, with roughly 56.5 million votes (48%) to Clinton's 55.32 million (47%).
