Lady Gaga's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show entrance will restore your faith in humanity
Not a Kendall Jenner nor a Gigi Hadid, not a Bruno Mars nor the Weeknd, not even a $3-million dollar fantasy bra could manage to steal focus from Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, aka Lady Gaga, when she hit the runway during Wednesday's taping of the highly anticipated Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
The singer-songwriter performed three numbers (which included three outfit changes) during the taping for the annual special, which airs Monday, November 5.
But it was Gaga's performance of "Million Reasons" that truly stole the show. The 50-second entrance that preceded her first vocal saw Mother Monster emerging from the fog of an overhead sign that read "Mountain Romance," the meaning of which was not immediately made clear.
Channeling her inner (and upcoming) Donatella Versace, she slowly sauntered down the runway draped in a Yolan Cris SS16 sheer lace gown embroidered with roses. Her body did all the talking, wordlessly asserting the presence of greatness before a crowd that included Nick Cannon, Olivier Rousting and Tobey Maguire.
Gaga vamped during the song's opening chords, blowing a single kiss out to the crowd to raucous applause.
She then — in what some might call theatrical and others might identify as the showwomanship we've come to expect from the singer — masterfully repositioned her upper body to put forth the necessary posture with which to deliver a powerhouse performance of the song.
Like Rihanna in 2013, Gaga managed to make the evening her own, with everyone else's role that of a featured player.
