Someone made a $150,000 gold-plated Trump-themed iPhone because the world is disgusting
A $150,000 gold-plated iPhone 7 bearing the face of Donald Trump is for sale, just when you thought 2016 couldn't get any worse.
The extravagant Apple device is available for order at Goldgenie, a store in the United Arab Emirates that specializes in products for the super-rich. The shop is outfitted with a gold-plating machine and also sells items like a $350,000 gold-plated racing bike.
Why would anyone buy that, yet alone a Trump-branded iPhone? Life is hard for rich people, apparently.
"There are very wealthy, high-net-worth individuals all over the world and sometimes its very difficult to buy gifts for them because they have everything," Frank Fernando, Goldgenie's managing director, told CNN Money.
According to Fernando, the idea of the Trump-themed iPhone came about when a Chinese woman walked in the store and requested Goldgenie embellish the device with gold. Fernando said he believes the woman's family wants to offer the iPhone as a gift to Trump following his inauguration in January.
It's not just gold, either. Emirates 24/7, a Dubai news publication, reported that the iPhone is also emblazoned with 450 VS1 white diamonds.
As if that's not agonizing enough, Fernando said that he's received nine more orders for gold-plated Trump iPhones since the sale of the first device.
