The groundhog saw his shadow, because we needed more bad news

Punxsutawney Phil — the groundhog storied to have the ability to forecast the weather — saw his shadow during Thursday's annual Groundhog Day ceremony, predicting that Americans will have to slog through another six long weeks of winter.

Every Feb. 2 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, a groundhog by the name of Punxsutawney Phil emerges from his home in Gobbler's Knob to make his prediction.

If he sees his shadow, it's another six weeks of winter blues. If he doesn't see his shadow, that means spring will come early.

This year, Phil says the winter chill is here to stay.
