Richard Mourdock Rape Comment: How To Lose a Senate Race in 8 Seconds

Impact

On Tuesday night in Indiana, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock unofficially lost the race there two weeks before election day during a debate after apparently forgetting that women vote. During the final debate in his race against Democrat Joe Donnelly, the pro-life Mourdock was asked in the waning minutes of the debate whether he still opposed abortion in cases of rape or incest. Here is how the State Treasurer replied:

"I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize that life is that gift from God. And, I think, even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happened."

The latest independent poll in this race was conducted by the right-leaning Rasmussen, which earlier this month had Mourdock leading Donnelly 47% to 42%. That is likely to change after Mourdock's truly disastrous response in Tuesday's final Indiana senate debate in New Albany.

Adding to the controversy is the fact that just recently, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney cut an ad for Mourdock.

First, Mitt demanded "binders full of women," now he supports Richard "God Intended Your Rape Pregnancy Mourdock." This won't help the Mittster with the ladies!

One question I have for the God-loving Mourdock is this: If you really believe that God intends for women to get raped and become pregnant as a result of rape, how can you possibly praise that God? A God that doesn't just allow women to be raped, but as you say, intends for women to be raped? What kind of god is that?

UPDATE

American Bridge PAC is already out with a killer ad tying Romney to Mourdock:
