180 actors new to 'Twin Peaks' who will appear in the reboot

Perhaps the owls were what they seemed, because Twin Peaks is returning to the small screen Sunday night along with many actors from the original cast. But, while fans will be welcomed to the revival with these familiar faces, there will also be a large number of newcomers to the strange Minnesotan town — 180 to be exact. They may not yet be staples of the community, but many of them will be very familiar to audiences. 

The new cast list was revealed on Facebook back in April 2016 — in true Twin Peaks fashion, as a sort of clue with very little explanation. 

The number of stars slated to make an appearance is pretty epic. But considering the original series' acclaim, it makes sense. It's a chance to be a part of the strange world that influenced so many of this decade's TV masterpieces.

The Twin Peaks newbies

As is the case with most of the newcomers, Laura Dern's role in the revival is unknown — although, based on her presence in Twin Peaks photoshoots, the likelihood is it will be a pivotal one. Dern has appeared in a number of Lynch projects before, including Blue Velvet with Kyle Maclachlan, so it's clear the show's creator likes working with her. There are rumors she might play Diane, the secretary for which Agent Cooper was always making tape-recorded memos in the original run — but for now, that's merely speculation.

Amy Shiels is also joining Twin Peaks, and is the only newbie to appear at the top of the reboot's cast list, because she's in 16 of the 18 new episodes. Obviously she'll play a major role, but what that role might be, like most everything else with this reboot, remains shrouded in mystery.
