Mar-a-Lago Sinkhole: Hole opens in ground in front of Donald Trump's Palm Beach resort

Impact

President Donald Trump might be out of the country right now, but there's still news coming out of Mar-a-Lago, the Trump-owned Florida resort that's been dubbed the "winter White House."

A sinkhole opened up directly in front of Mar-a-Lago on Monday, the town of Palm Beach reported. The hole, measuring about four feet by four feet, is located on Southern Boulevard near the resort's southern entrance.

The cause behind the sinkhole is currently unclear, the Palm Beach Daily News reported, though it is located near a new water main. Utility crews on the scene are reportedly currently working to excavate the hole and determine the problem.

It's unclear how long the excavation will take. Traffic is currently moving and being rerouted around the sinkhole.

The hole may not be a cause for concern for Trump and Mar-a-Lago's wealthy members, however: The resort typically closes for the season just after Mother's Day, and the president is expected to spend the summer retreating to his Bedminster, New Jersey, estate.
