London Grenfell Tower Fire: Apartment building engulfed in flames in West London

Fatalities have been reported after a massive fire engulfed the Grenfell Tower apartment building in West London on Wednesday morning. The Associated Press reported on Wednesday that 12 people had died, although the number was expected to rise.

According NBC News, 200 firefighters and 40 fire engines worked to extinguish the blaze. The building, which has 120 units, was evacuated.

London Police later confirmed that at least six people were killed in the blaze and more than 50 were hospitalized.

"It's so heartbreaking, I've seen someone flashing their torches at the top level and they obviously can't get out," a radio reporter at the scene said, according to the BBC.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan called the fire a "major incident."
