Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer: Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve Have Arrived

Culture

Star Trek fans young and old have been awaiting the new teaser trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness for weeks. While most believed they would have to wait until they went to go see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in theaters to catch a glimpse, today the official teaser has dropped.

The teaser starts off with Benedict Cumberbatch (playing a still unknown villain) talking in a deep, ominous tone. The trailer, barely over 60 seconds long, shows some truly dramatic footage. Among the more eerie scenes are that of a Constitution Class Starship crashing into water, people screaming in terror, and an obvious ode to Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, where Kirk and Spock appear to be touching hands through glass.

The trailer was released for several countries, with the Japanese trailer showcasing about 10 extra seconds of footage. While it does not appear to show which character Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing, it does show that he will indeed be terrifying. If all goes well, this will truly be the movie where Kirk earns his captain's chair, as we were told recently by several internet sources.

The extra seconds in the Japanese trailer appear to show a city being destroyed, along with several shots of terrified Federation citizens. The character being played by Alice Eve is still not known either, however she is seen in a Starfleet uniform. (Nurse Chapel? Carol Marcus? Dr. Elizabeth Dehner?)

Prepare to boldly go my friends ... and now — the teasers!
