President Obama will be sworn into office for a second term on Sunday in a brief and private White House ceremony — reported The New York Times

The president and vice president, who also was privately sworn in on Sunday morning, then will head to Monday's public inaugural events — where they'll be sworn in again, this time in front of the American public. 

The president's oath is administered by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. in the White House Blue Room. Vice President Joe Biden, on the other hand, requested his oath to be administered at his residence on the grounds of the Naval Observatory by Justice Sonia Sotomayor — the first Latina in the Supreme Court. 

A White House statement, obtained by the Times, says that family members of the president "would witness the Blue Room ceremony."
