YouTube Video of Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor At Inauguration 2013

Impact

Early Monday morning, much of the nation celebrated the 2013 inauguration of President Barack Obama at the Capitol. The event, while hyped to have less pizazz than the last time the president was sworn in due to the struggling economy, still featured a lot of big names from the music industry.

The largest star to perform at the event was pop culture sensation Beyonce, who performed the National Anthem.

Another big name to perform at the event was American Idol’s Kelly Clarkson, who sang “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”

And finally, five time Grammy Award-winner James Taylor sang the “America the Beautiful.”

The performances and inauguration coincided with Martin Luther King Day and the public swearing-in officially marked the beginning of President Obama’s second term in office. In his 22-minute speech, the commander-in-chief invoked Dr. King by stating “The most evident of truths — that all of us are created equal — is still the star that guides us.”

Interestingly, the month’s hottest topic, specifically gun control, was not mentioned.
