Kevin Swanson and Dave Buehner: Feminists are Family-Destroying Whores

Impact

"Feminists are family-destroying whores," according to Boulder, CO-based Christian conservative radio hosts Kevin Swanson and Dave Buehner. In their view, any female who isn't married and totally subservient to her husband is a feminist out to destroy Western civilization. Swanson and Buehner have every right to have their radio show, but the rest of us should be aware of their intolerant attacks and hatred.

In addition to their linkage of a strict female-subservient lifestyle to their religious interpretations and politics, Swanson and Buehner have decided that feminism is all about looks. They break today's feminists down into two categories: the "cute" who want and can "get" husbands, and the "ugly," who can't get husbands.

Sarah Palin is one of these "cute," yet destructive feminists, who works outside the home, speaks out in public, and who won't "submit" to her husband.

As to the second category, "ugly" feminists, Swanson and Buehner contend that since "uglies" can't get husbands, they must rely on corporations, free birth control, and proxy marriage to Barack Obama.

Or Mitt Romney.

On this level, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have nothing to do with people like Swanson and Buehner and their congregations, their attitudes, or their causes. People like controversial former Missouri congressmember Todd Akin do. He and a few other militant pro-life politicians have received endorsements from Swanson, as well as funds and volunteer support.

The "ugly" and "cute" feminist rant is typical of the Generations Radio program hosted by Swanson and Buehner. Generations Radio is devoted to the conservative Christian home school movement (of which Swanson is a graduate and promoter/activist). Both men conduct personal morality-based campaigning against those who think, live and believe differently from them.

I say "personal morality-based," because there aren't any Biblical verses that say "Don't vote for Mitt Romney because he's a gay-loving Mormon," or that detail the differences between "cute" and "ugly" women because the former can "get" husbands they don't want to obey and the latter cannot "get" any husbands at all. There's no Bible verse specifically prohibiting abortion or promoting home schooling and prohibiting women from talking; there are many Biblical teachings about respect for life and others. These matters are up for doctrinal teaching and interpretation, which is by no means certain or spelled out in any Bible text.

Buehner and Swanson are selectively interpreting Biblical teachings and applying their desires for dominance and control to their daily lives as well as their weekly shows, each one of which is more appalling than the last.

Much as Todd Akin used his wife Lulli to solicit contributions and defend him after his controversial statements about and a woman's innate physical ability to prevent pregnancy after "legitimate rape," Kevin Swanson frequently speaks on behalf of his wife and the mother of their five children, Brenda. Brenda, is, of course, at home educating the couple's children.

There is not a thing wrong in the world with wanting to be a wife and mother, and wanting to home school children. There are plenty of things wrong with Kevin Swanson and Dave Buehner. Legitimate home school mothers have complained about this pair and their crude, cruel attacks and intolerance for years.

Buehner and Swanson are mean, small, vicious little men who apparently can only feel better about themselves by lording it over women and children. Same as it ever was.

According to Maureen O'Hara, "God has a wicked sense of humor." The number of followers on Kevin Swanson's Twitter account would seem to bear this out.
