Ron Paul Tweet About Murdered Sniper Chris Kyle Sparks Outrage
Former Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) enraged the nation on Monday, after his Twitter account featured a derogatory remark concerning the death of ex-Navy SEAL and sniper Chris Kyle:
Despite initial claims that Paul himself didn't compose the tweet, those rumors have since been proven false — refocusing the spotlight on Paul.
In addition to the heartlessness that Paul's statement entails, his construct of the argument is false and places full blame of the incident onto Kyle — not the actual killer — and further exemplifies the un-predictable irrationality that Paul has often displayed.
Paul, who retired from congress in January, is no rookie when it comes to sparking controversy concerning his opinions on sensitive issues. Often criticized for his irrational stances on foreign policy and the Middle East, Paul usually saved face by touting his pro-personal liberty and free market domestic policy. This time, however, it appears that Paul may have picked the wrong controversy to jump into.
Unlike many Americans, who reacted with shock and sorrow as they learned of the murder of Chris Kyle, Ron Paul decided to take another route and offer his own synopsis of the tragic story. Paul, who has yet to apologize, wrote, "Chris Kyle's death seems to confirm that "he who lives by the sword dies by the sword." Treating PTSD at a firing range doesn't make sense."
To the contrary of Paul's sentiments, it was Kyle's desire to offer help that placed him in that unfortunate circumstance, not his desire to hurt.
Kyle, who served four tours of duty in Iraq, left the Navy in 2009, and moved to Texas where, among other things, he started the Heroes Project in conjunction with the FITCO Cares Foundation.
With the intention of offering a plethora of services to veterans who were disabled or suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the Heroes Project was Kyle's broad-stream approach to help those in need.
Kyle's accused killer, Eddie Ray Routh, had been battling PTSD and as Kyle often did, he offered a helping hand. Unfortunately, as we now know, the outcome was not as heartening as the intention.
Paul's statement bills Kyle as a ruthless killer who met an anticipated and poetic fate; all while removing blame from Kyle's killer — a false scenario at best.
Chris Kyle was a true American hero and may he rest in peace.
