When Is the State Of the Union Address?

Impact

On Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. EST, President Barack Obama will give his fifth State of the Union to the United States Congress, the first of his second term as president. Obama is expected to deliver a wide-ranging speech, which will likely be an agenda-setting exercise as well as an attempt to cement his legacy as POTUS.

The curious political junkie can watch the address several places. The Obama administration set up a live feed which can be watched starting just a few minutes prior to the beginning of the speech.

The Big 4 broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC) should begin airing their coverage at around 9:00 p.m. EST.

ABC will anchor "Nightline" and "World News" beginning at 9:00 p.m., with both live coverage and analysis of the speech. To start a bit earlier, CurrentTV's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" will start running their coverage at 8:00 p.m. and continue throughout the speech and after.

ABC, CBS, and FOX have their schedules reserved for the address until 10:30 p.m. EST. NBC has coverage until 11:00 p.m.

Ceremonies begin promptly at 9:00 p.m., but if you're not into pomp and circumstance or pointless applause, fawning, and glares, you can wait a few minutes to tune in without missing anything of importance.
