Oscars Host 2013: Seth MacFarlane is Making People Nervous, But Will Be Amazing

Culture

In the last 10 years, we've seen an interesting mix of Oscars hosts. Jon Stewart hosted twice (2005 and 2007), Billy Crystal hosted twice (2003 and 2011), James Franco and Anne Hathaway famously bombed in 2010, and there were a few others hosts mixed into the fold (Hugh Jackman, Ellen DeGeneres, Chris Rock).

This year we will be graced with the presence of Family Guy creator and comedian extraordinaire Seth MacFarlane. As PolicyMic pundit Jasper Zweibel wrote in a recent piece, MacFarlane already has people nervous. "People get nervous whenever someone other than Billy Crystal is hosting the Oscars," Zweibel writes. Zweibel also mentioned the nomination ceremony as the genesis of everyone's worries.

"Right from the start, MacFarlane treated the event like he was hosting the Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump. He ribbed his co-host for the day, Emma Stone, took shots at nominees, and made a joke about Hitler which fell so flat that no one even chuckled at how unfunnny it was."

What do you think we can expect from MacFarlane this Sunday?
