Abraham Lincoln was cool, but he wasn't that cool. Sure, he went to painstaking and meticulous lengths to preserve the Union. And yes, he was a brilliant writer and speaker. Oh yeah, and he destroyed slavery with ice-cold politicking.
But his administration was often sharply criticized, his bravest, boldest decisions questioned. His failures were forgotten and his successes singularly attributed to him alone. Sound familiar?
