Culture

The French Bishops' Conference announced that Cardinal Jean Honoré died Thursday at 92, just hours before Pope Benedict leaves his post — reported The Associated Press. Honoré was Archbishop of Tours (a city in central France) from 1972 to 1981. He was appointed by Pope John Paul II. And, since he was already over 80 in 2001, when he was made cardinal, he was unable to vote at the 2005 conclave. According to the AP, Honoré was an expert in the work of the British 19th-century cleric Cardinal John Henry Newman, who was beatified by Benedict in 2010.
