James Franco 'Oz the Great and Powerful': Star-Studded Film Won't Save Him

Culture

Have you ever found yourself saying, "Wow, that was a bad year?" Well, actor James Franco has had a bad couple of years. He may never be able to live down the 2011 Oscars hosting disaster, is known for spreading himself too thin, falls asleep in class, was sued by a former professor, and recently appeared in what's quite possibly the weirdest parody music video of all time

That's pretty tough to live down, but Franco's new movie, Oz the Great and Powerful, which has big name celebrities including Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Zach Braff, and Rachel Weisz, could help restore his image ... that is, until Spring Breakers hits theaters in  a couple of weeks.

Oz the Great and Powerful, which is about magic, enchanted land, and all that good stuff, must be somewhat promising to attract A-list talent, but any praise Franco may get from this project could pale in comparison to the response to his bizarre role in Spring Breakers, in which he portrays a gold-toothed, dreadlocked, skeevy gangster creep named Alien. Nothing illustrates this better than the film trailer:

It's impressive for Franco to throw himself into different parts and give his all, but considering the backlash Franco and the film have received for placing Disney stars in a raunchy movie and more, it doesn't look like any amount of positive press Franco may receive for Oz could balance out the flak he's already gotten for this.
