U.N. Unanimously Adopts Sanctions Against North Korea

Impact

It was a 15-0 vote in the United Nations this morning as each member of the Security Council agreed to adopt a fresh new round sanctions against North Korea.

US ambassador Susan Rice said the resolution used the UNs toughest language to strongly condemn the repeated violation of previous UN resolutions as well as the countries ballistic missile and nuclear tests. Rice added that the UN is willing to take further action against North Korea if another nuclear test is attempted.

The resolution is the result of weeks of negotiations between the U.S. and North Korean ally, China.
