Does Ron Paul Have a Shot? Which GOP Candidate Is Pulling Ahead Before the Iowa Caucus?

Impact

Last night's debate was the final before the January 3rd Iowa Caucuses. Seven Republican candidates – Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, John Hunstman, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum – participated in the debate, held at the Sioux City Convention Center in Sioux City, Iowa. The debate was sponsored by FOX News.

The pressure was on, as it was likely the last Republican debate before the candidates are be back in Iowa to head to their caucuses.

“With Thursday’s debate being the last time the candidates square off both before the Christmas holiday and Iowa caucus, this will take on an increased urgency,” said Doug Heye, a Republican strategist and senior adviser to the Iowa Republican Party.

There has been great discussion among pundits that this unpredictable campaign season may witness another GOP hopeful’s rise as Gingrich loses momentum in the polls.

Who might enter the race as a competitive late-comer ahead of the Iowa Caucus and how might s/he succeed in securing the Republican nomination?
