Newt Gingrich Will Win Georgia Republican Primary By a Landslide

Polls conducted in Georgia in the months leading up to Super Tuesday paint a picture of decided home state advantage for Newt Gingrich.

Gingrich’s numbers have been on top from the start, even if minimally, according to polls conducted as far back as nine months ago. As Super Tuesday nears, though, Gingrich has pulled far ahead, boasting support towering over that held by Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, and Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).

Heading into Super Tuesday, Gingrich is narrowly focused on the delegate-rich Georgia primary. With 76 delegates up for grabs, the largest in the Super Tuesday marathon, and after an uninspiring performance at the GOP debate in Arizona two weeks ago, Gingrich needs Georgia now more than ever.

Among a litany of stops during his five-day Georgia crusade, Gingrich said at a business breakfast: “Let me be clear: I have to win Georgia, I think, to be credible in the race.”

Another hefty Super PAC contribution from billionaire supporter Sheldon Adelson is certainly helping make a win in Georgia a reality. Acting on claims that he must have a better home state showing than Romney did in his native Michigan a week ago, Gingrich has made immense spending investments in Georgia radio and TV ad time, and it seems to be working. With just one day before voters hit the polls, his numbers are higher than ever; a landslide victory in Georgia’s primary will be no surprise.
