Mass Election Results: Ed Markey Wins U.S. Senate Race in Massachusetts

Impact

With 63% reporting, PolicyMic is declaring Rep. Ed Markey the winner in the Massachusetts special election for U.S. Senate. Currently Markey holds a lead of 41,000 votes, and with the majority of the heavily Democratic metro area of Boston-Cambridge yet to report, the votes for Gomez simply will not be there for him to catch Markey after the huge gains he makes in that area.

Gomez appears poised to dominate central Massachusetts, in addition to picking up some gains on the North Shore just as Brown did in 2010 and 2012. However, in the end Markey's name recognition, party label, and war chest proved too much for the GOP upstart.
