As I wrote on Wednesday, Texas State Senator Wendy Davis (a Democrat, duh) is a rock star. Not only did she stand for 11 hours to block a draconian anti-choice bill, she kept her cool in the face of some seriously ridiculous statements and actions from her opponents.
Rep. Jodie Laubenberg (R): "In the emergency room they have what’s called rape kits where a woman can get cleaned out ... The woman had five months to make that decision, at this point we are looking at a baby that is very far along in its development."
State Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. explains he's anti-choice but also says, "I love women."
When Davis brought up a Texan law requiring that women get a sonogram before obtaining an abortion, Republican State Senator Donna Campbell stood up and claimed the discussion wasn’t "germane" to the legislation Davis was filibustering.
Rick Perry: "She was the daughter of a single woman, she was a teenage mother herself. She managed to eventually graduate from Harvard Law School and serve in the Texas senate. It is just unfortunate that she hasn’t learned from her own example that every life must be given a chance to realize its full potential and that every life matters."
Laura Ingraham tweeted: "Question to 'hero' St Sen. Wendy Davis: Which kids that you see on the playground shouldn't be there?"
