2013 NBA Draft: First Foreign Player Selected, Giannis Antetokounmpo

Culture

The Dallas Mavericks are a likely landing spot for Antetokounmpo. The Mavs will first try to trade down but there hasn't been much buzz surrounding a potential deal. The Mavs love "The Greek Freak."  He has point guard handles, which is incredible considering his size. Dallas has also been the UN of the NBA over the last fifteen years, welcoming players from all over the globe. Currently they're down to two foreign players, with Dirk representing Germany and Rodrigue Beaubois hailing from France. The real reason for this pick, however, is that the Mavs need to stash a player this year to free up salary. They're on the hunt for Dwight Howard and they'll need every last penny to acquire the mercurial big man. If Antetokounmpo improves his shooting from deep, he could end up being a real steal for Dallas.
