Tropical Storm Chantal Tracker LIVE: Updates On Storm Path and Hurricane Status

Impact

Tropical Storm Chantal is projected to hit the Florida coast and is making its way through the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico and the surrounding island areas including a portion of the Bahamas.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the storm was located about 270 miles southeast of Puerto Rico, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, and was moving west-northwest at 26 mph.

The center issued a hurricane watch for the Dominican Republic's southern coast, with the storm expected to be near or over the country by Wednesday afternoon. Chantal is then expected to be over the southeastern and central Bahamas on Thursday.

In the Bahamas, the storm is expected to lose much of its momentum. Still, the storm is likely to bring a large surge of rain to Florida over the course of the weekend. More updates coming soon.
